We invited Tamera Miyasato and Blue Dawn Little of Indigenous Storytime to discuss the importance of honoring Native American heritage at this time of year and practicing gratitude year round. Both women are members of the Oceti Sakowin, or Seven Council Fires of the Black Hills in the Mountain West. They teach us about Indigenous cultural traditions, including those of the Wampanoag, the Indigenous people referenced in the “first Thanksgiving,” and encourage everyone to know the history of Indigenous nations in their areas. Wopila!
Special thank you to the following for sharing their respective Indigenous terms of gratitude:
Kathy Holding Eagle Turner
Lisa Casarez
Erin Dunnigan Oliver
Natalie Stites Means
Marisa Cummings
Ken Foster
And thank you to Shawn Espinosa for the background art in the top photo.
